A Charitable Trust
Find out more about us
The Guardians of St Alphege was founded in 1981, when it was decided to set up a charitable organisation to raise funds and an awareness of the rich heritage of this medieval building. It is a non-denominational body, and funds repairs, essential maintenance, improvement, upkeep, beautification, and stained glass repairs of the building.
The cost of maintenance of ecclesiastical buildings is becoming increasingly expensive, while resources of bodies such as English Heritage are being squeezed. We therefore rely upon the income from our Friends to maintain the fabric of this church.
We currently have around 130 members of The Friends, and they are invited to attend a variety of fundraising social events throughout the year, including luncheons, dinners, fund raising open day at St Alphege as well as annual evensong service of thanksgiving and more. As a member you do not have to attend if you do not wish to ! and we keep all members informed of events throughout the year. Find out more about our social events here.
The Trustees
The Trustees hold an Annual General Meeting, usually in June. Applications for grants are decided upon as and when a request for funds is made. The Guardians is a registered charity ( number: 1166292) and reports annually to the charity commission. Find out more about our Trustees here.
