Our Work

Much has been achieved by the friends since it’s inception in 1981, with over £260,000 being donated to fund a variety of works.  We are a non-denominational association formed to help provide funds for the fabric of this iconic building.  The Guardians main objective is to raise funds and invest them in order to assist the Parochial Church Council in paying for any major repairs and membership is open to all.

In 2007, during a period of particularly inclement weather with very high winds, there was found to be movement in the spire.  Fortunately there were funds in place which enabled us to scaffold and secure the dangerous areas immediately and proceed with the restoration work.  Had funds not been available, it is highly likely that the church would have been closed on safety grounds until funding could be raised.
